ok..ok..ok......This is gross...ok..ok.....Ready?

My sister in law was telling us last night during the football game about switching pediatricians and how she loves her new one. This new Dr looked into one of her kids ears and couldn't see the ear drum because of ear wax and asked if she would like him to clean it out for her. Of course she did. Who wouldn't?! So he showed her how do it using a Waterpik, warm water and some hydrogen peroxide.

Luckily, my mother in law has one and so we got the kids together tonight and did it! It was so cool and so gross at the same time. Great entertainment. Brooke was in a daze watching. Don't worry, I didn't do it to her! Or to Wes's ear that has the tube still in it. I am a responsible mother. But if you do have wax, this will take care of it. Believe me!!!

Snow in September?

Yesterday the kids and I went to the Scrapbook Expo with my friend from Alaska, Miss Amber Combs. I love it when I get to see her. You would think we would see each other more often living only 25 minutes from each other, but somehow we don't.

When we picked her up it was very yucky outside. Windy like crazy and raining, all the way to Salt Lake. By the time we came out of the Expo it was SNOWING! Crazy. We called Gramea to tell her and she told Wes to take a picture of it for her, but I was driving and we couldn't. By the time we got home, it was only raining at our house.
Later in the afternoon it started to snow at our house! How exciting for the kids. Wes had me outside taking pictures for Gramea and Brooke stood in the doorway watching.

We had the missionaries come over for dinner, the first time since Dave and I have been married. Wes was looking forward to that. Wes has only had dinner with the missionaries at Gramea and Papa's house in Alaska. Never at his house. He even got to go and pick them up with his dad! Brooke on the other hand, was so shy. When they got here, she just stood with her face into the armoir. Finally I went over and picked her up to join the rest of us. She finally broke down towards the end and sat next to one of them and was herself.

During dinner, when it really started snowing Wes got all of his snow gear together and went out and was making snowballs. One of the missionaries was from California and was surprised that Wes was making them so easily. He wanted to go out and try it too. They ended up making snowmen and having a snowball fight. They were out there laughing like crazy. I think the missionaries were having as much fun as Wesley was!

Here is the first snowman Wes made by himself, with his water rocket as a hat.

This is the snowman that the missionaries & Wes made. I only had babybel cheese, no carrots for the features! Oh well. The poor missionary on the left, the one from Canada, his hands were so cold. He didn't have gloves. His laugh made all of us laugh. It reminded me of a Stanton laugh.

Update on reading Eclipse...

I read Eclipse today. I have to say, New Moon was my favorite. I think because Edward bugged me in this book, way too protective in parts. But then again doesn't judge her. It was also the longest, over 600 pages. One of the chapters I kinda skimmed through, didn't really read. Something about the 3 wives. Hmmm...I wonder what Bella will do.... Maybe I did like this book. I am sure I will be reading them again before the next one comes out, I did end up buying this one at Costco! It was only $10.99, so cheap.

Anyway, now I can get back to my life and not worry about having my own nightmares from reading!!! I get spooked way to easily. I waited for Dave to get home so I could go to bed last night, pretty sad.

What has this world come to? ME READ?!?

Can you believe...me read? I know, I know, completely not normal. I can't tell you the last book I read for fun. I have read parenting books and some church books, but that is it. Absolutely nothing for FUN! Especially not 1,000 pages in 3 days. I still have to read the last book, which I will be starting at approximately 8pm tonight when the kids go to bed (and I pick it up from my mother in law)!

So many of my friends have been reading these books for the past year and have been talking about them forever. My mother in law read them and some of my sisters in law read them, so I finally gave in, just so I could figure out WHO IN THE WORLD IS EDWARD CULLENS!!! And why is everyone obsessing over him?
Well..I will tell you why...he is a perfect gentleman, yet extremely cold. One you could only imagine. And that is all I will tell you, oh and it is completely fiction. You will have to read it to find out more. I will admit, I did find myself wondering why I was reading this book about half way through. The last few chapters picked back up and ended great.
New Moon picked right up and I really liked the whole book. During the entire book, I was waiting for some action between Edward and Jake. I won't tell you what happened, in case you haven't read it. But I definitely liked it better than Twilight. I hear that Eclipse is even better. So far, everyone likes it the best. The only problem is - the next one doesn't come out until Fall 2008.

So once I have finished Eclipse, I will let you know what I think, just in case anyone cares!

There are rumors it will be on the big screen sometime! Soon I hope!

Ahh...Quality family time at the Dew Action Sports Tour

Somehow online I saw the Dew Action Sports Tour. Pros compete over 4 days in skateboarding, BMX & FMX. I thought Wes would like to watch these guys being crazy on their bikes and motorcycles.

We took Trax up there, the kids always like to ride the train. There was loud music that poor Brooke couldn't control her little body. It just danced and danced in the stroller. Wes ate all the Slim Jims he could handle. They were handing them out like Halloween candy and Mountain Dew samples on every corner. There were tons of sponsors trying to get anyone and everyone into their booth with free junk.

The first stop was the skateboarding. We watched for awhile. Wes stood right up front.

Here he is with his better than front row seat. Wes could have been sprayed with their sweat he was so close! Gross, I know.

This is Ryan Sheckler for all you skate junkies. He had a pretty big crowd there.
Yamaha was one of the big sponsors here. They had a booth for kids 12 and younger. How often does that happen? Never for something like this. After parents sign the no lawsuit waiver, the kids get to ride dirt bikes. They go and put on the cool motorcycle gear and then ride! However, after Wes taught me to be the protective parent from his not so little snow machine accident, I had to tell the people in charge over and over not to let him hold onto the gas by himself. He might just grab it and go full throttle!

So when he came out with the instructor on the bike with him I was relieved. But this only lasted for about 1 lap. The next thing we knew......

Wes was totally on his own. Look at him! We were so proud of him. He was awesome. It comes so natural to him. Just like riding a bike. He just jumps on and goes. He is even leaning into the corner like he knows what he is doing! He was smiles and giggles the entire time. We could hear him on the sideline!

The last event of the night was BMX. We went across the street to see it really quickly. These guys get so high and can do so many flips and turns. It was amazing. We didn't stay out there too long, we had to run inside to see the vertical skateboarding before the kids got too cranky. Everything was so extreme. The only thing we missed, that we wanted to see the most was the FMX (motorcycles). For some reason they were cancelled for the day.

Anyway, we jumped back onto Trax and went home. Brooke was sure tired and let everyone on the train know it. Wes, like usual, was the perfect traveler. We had a fun time up there together. It was fun to have dad with us. We thought he was going to have to work.

Today I was a "Mommy Helper" in Kindergarten

For about the past week Wes has been asking when I can come in and help in his class. Monday-Thursday moms can come in and help with stations. Today Dave was home during the afternoon, so I was able to go in and help. Wes's face had a smile from ear to ear! He loved it.

I think he had a great day all together. His friend, Carson, rides his bike to Kindergarten everyday. His mom is nicer than I am! She drives along side him in the car to and from school while he rides, everyday. Today was a bid day for Wes, I finally let him go with Carson. He felt like such a school aged kid! We have no school buses where we live and so most of the kids either ride bikes or scooters while the weather is nice. My friend, Julie, has an extra bike that she is letting me borrow tomorrow and we are going to ride with the kids to school and home again. This should be interesting. I was trying to think of the last time I was on a bike. I don't remember when that was.

Wes is one TALL 5 year old

Lately I have been noticing how tall Wesley is becoming. He is the tallest in his Primary class, Kindergarten class, among the kids on the street, and his cousins! Today I decided to measure him against me. I am about 5' 6.5" and Wes comes up the point where my ribs where they meet. I have a survey on the sidebar for my visitors to take, "How tall do you think Wes will be as an adult?"

Brooke's New Hair Accessories

My friend Amanda (yes, the one who talked me into doing this site) showed me how to manipulate metal "alligator" barettes to stay in Brooke's hair. Like her headbands I made her as a baby, I went crazy, making tons of them. I was wondering what I was going to do with all the left over flowers I had from those headbands, here is the perfect idea. Just like before, she has a barette for each outfit, or I will hurry and make one before heading out the door!!!

Here she is wearing all the barettes that were down stairs on the counter at the time! They, along with her jewelry, are her "Pretties".

Brooke finally likes the camera. She was starting to say "Cheese!"

Dog or House Alarm?

After having a stray cat at our house all day, we decided to go to the Animal Shelter. Let me set the stage here; Wes has been asking for a pet for a long time now and Brooke absolutely adores animals, all animals big or small. So far we haven't convinced Dave to get a pet. For a while I have been wanting either a dog or a house alarm for when he is working nights.

So today Wes came home from piano lessons (a couple houses up) and this cat was at our front door. Wes was trying to come in the house and the cat was right there with him, rubbing up against his legs and wanting to come in too. Luckily Wes didn't let it in. Brooke saw the cat at the door and started screaming and freaking out wanting to go and pet it, but I don't know where it came from and didn't want the kids to play with it. Wes went back out and watched it in our garage, laying on the steps and under the car. He tried to give it some water (without me knowing). Then he followed it into the back yard and he kept telling the cat, "I'm sorry kitty, we don't have any food for you." Then Wes went to school.

Meanwhile, Dave went out to organize his work car and was out there for a while, came in and sanitized his hands. I asked him why he sanitized and he said he was playing with the cat. GROSS!

Maybe that is why Dave finally decided that a pet might not be so bad after all. He noticed how much his kids love animals. It was his idea to go to the shelter, so we went.

On the way there, I told Wes that we were going to this place to look around, but we were not going to buy anything. He didn't know where we were going. When we walked in the door, both kids started freaking out with excitement. There were cats, dogs, lizards, oh my! They were a bit overwhelmed, I think. Brooke ran back and forth between the dogs and cats, and then would get down on the floor like a dog and put her nose to the ground, totally grossing me out. We looked at all the puppies and then the older dogs. Finally we took a yellow lab into the private room to see how the dog interacted. It was a really good dog. He wouldn't jump on Brooke, didn't bark. He was excited, but really a good dog, from what we could tell. Dave was ready to take him home, but I wasn't. I want to do more research and get the back yard ready.

We will see what happens. There are monthly costs for an alarm and a dog. Lots to think about, I want something for piece of mind.

I think little Miss Seaka is growing

Today was a very unusual day for my kids. They both ate all of their food without being asked to finish or to sit down over and over.

Brooke's diet for the day was:

  • Breakfast: Yogurt, a bowl of oatmeal, a couple bites of banana, milk
  • Snack: 1 banana, animal crackers, fishy crackers, 1/3 nutrigrain bar
  • Lunch: 1/2 turkey & cheese sandwich on whole wheat (plus part of Dave's), milk
  • Snack: 1/2 nutrigrain bar
  • Dinner: She couldn't wait for dinner to be ready so she had more of a nutrigrain bar, full serving of lasagna, lots of water
  • After dinner snack: some marshmallows and a couple bites of cookies I was making, huge glass of milk

All day she was asking for "nummy". I hope she sleeps well tonight on that full tummy!

Wes never eats that much, but he ate all of his breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

We were completely amazed with both of them.

What do you think of me now?

Tonight the YW/YM had a combined activity called "Where's Waldo". They asked my friend Jamey and I to participate. We glady accepted! I am not sure what the purpose of the activity was, but we had a blast.

A couple of weeks ago the YW presidency approached me and told me they are asking a handful of adults to have their pictures taken for a "Wanted" poster. Then on September 12th we were to go to the mall (either dressed up or as ourselves) for the YW/YM to try and find us from the posters.

It was Jamey's idea to dress Gothic. So today I went to the D.I. trying to find some over sized black jeans and a picture with a skull or something on it. Instead, this was the outfit I came up with, shoes and all (well, minus the fishnets and wig, they are Jamey's). By the way, this is a maternity skirt if anyone wants to borrow it.

Only 3 YW found us! Not even the adults recognized us. It was a lot of fun. It cracked us up the whole time, which was a dead giveaway because we were smiling and laughing.

I don't know how well it would work in Alaska, our malls down here aren't nearly as big as up there.

My First Post to the World

I hope this blog is successful, meaning I can figure it out and stick to it!

Wes started afternoon kindergarten this year, although he looks like he could be in 1st or 2nd grade! He is by far the tallest in his grade. Everyday after school I ask him what they talked about and what his favorite part of the day was. He tells me that he doesn't remember. He did tell me that he went to the "D.I." instead of recess. I didn't understand what he was talking about. He told me that there was a different teacher and they had to run around the room. I finally figured out that it was P.E.!

Brooke has started to talk more and more. She always says, "Thank you, Welcome" whenever she says thank you. She is such a little girl and loves girl things. I just bought her a little soft Disney doll of one of the Disney Princesses and she calls her "Princess". I love it. I made her some new barrettes today (that my friend Amanda showed me) and she holds her head up when she is wearing it. I will take some pictures and post them.

Well everyone, let me know what you think of this site and what I can do to make it more interesting. Thanks!
